Richard P. Hemar is the founder of the law firm, which he established in 1973. Martin J. Rousso, a friend since junior high school, joined the firm in 1978 and became a partner in 1980. Mr. Hemar is still actively involved in the day-to-day management of the firm, one of the largest in the San Fernando Valley. During that time he has helped build an enviable roster of loyal clients, which include national equipment leasing companies, large financial institutions, entertainment-related companies and wholesale distributors.
During his distinguished and varied legal career Mr. Hemar conducted dozens of trials before devoting his time fully to law firm management duties, staffing, training and supervising other attorneys. Previously, he spent three years with the California Attorney General's Office, handling criminal cases.
Mr. Hemar's professional affiliations include the Western Association of Equipment Lessors, where he served two terms as a director and received its Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also served on the Equipment Lessors Association's (ELA) Legal Committee and been a member of the Commercial Law League of America since 1973.
Mr. Hemar conducted his undergraduate studies at University of California, Los Angeles, where he received a degree in Business Administration. At the age of 26 he received his law degree from UCLA as well. He began practicing law in 1970.
Mr. Hemar maintains an active lifestyle and is an avid (some say rabid) Los Angeles Lakers fan, even in the losing seasons. He also is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court of California, Central District.
